Selling Audiobooks on Audible ACX in 2023

Audible ACX is the world’s largest platform for selling audiobooks. If you’re an author or publisher with a book that you think would translate well to audio, Audible ACX can be a great way to reach a new audience and make some extra money.

In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the steps of selling audiobooks on Audible ACX. We’ll cover everything from creating your audiobook project to marketing and promoting your audiobook.

Step 1: Create Your Audiobook Project

The first step is to create your audiobook project on Audible ACX. You’ll need to provide some basic information about your book, such as the title, author, and genre. You’ll also need to choose a royalty option.

ACX offers three royalty options:
ExclusiveYou’ll earn 40% royalties, but your audiobook will only be available on Audible.
Royalty ShareYou and your producer strike a deal to split the 40% royalty. This means you will only make 20% in royalties, but the upfront cost of having your producer narrate the audiobook is waived as they will be paid the other 20% in perpetuity.
Non-ExclusiveYou’ll earn 25% royalties, and you’ll have the right to distribute your audiobook on your own.

Step 2: Find a Narrator

Once your audiobook project is created, you’ll need to find a narrator. Audible ACX has a large database of narrators, so you should be able to find someone who is a good fit for your book.

When you’re searching for a narrator, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • The narrator’s voice: Make sure that the narrator’s voice is a good fit for your book’s genre and target audience.
  • The narrator’s experience: The more experience a narrator has, the better they will be at bringing your book to life.
  • The narrator’s rate: Narrators’ rates vary depending on their experience and skill level.

Once you’ve found a narrator that you’re interested in, you can send them an offer through ACX.

Step 3: Produce Your Audiobook

Once you’ve found a narrator, they will produce your audiobook. This includes recording the audio, editing the audio, and adding sound effects and music.

The production process can take, usually, a week or two. Once the audiobook is produced, you will need to approve it before it can be released.

Step 4: Market and Promote Your Audiobook

Once your audiobook is released, you’ll need to market and promote it. There are a few things you can do to promote your audiobook:

  • List your audiobook: If you choose a non-exclusive deal then you can list your audiobook all over the place with no penalty. If you chose the exclusive deal then just sit back and relax because once production is done and its approved by ACX, it will be automatically listed for sale.
  • Create a website or blog for your audiobook: This will give you a platform to promote your audiobook and connect with potential listeners.
  • Run social media ads: Social media ads can be a great way to reach a large audience.
  • Reach out to bloggers and reviewers: Bloggers and reviewers can help you get the word out about your audiobook.

Step 5: Earn Money

Everyone’s favorite step! Once your audiobook is selling, you’ll start to earn money and your royalties will be paid out monthly. Easy enough, just make sure you have a quality audiobook and correct banking information. You can also check your earnings and book performance in the Audible ACX sales dashboard.
